Instrument and Electrical Technician


Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Participates in installing all instrumentation components safely and troubleshoots problems with said equipment
  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority
  • Runs conduit, pulls wire, changes end devices and maintains alarms and shutdown systems
  • Maintains and troubleshoots other plant control systems and complex equipment
  • Maintain, modify and troubleshoot and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and HMI’s (Allen Bradley, ROC 800L and Red Lion) to maximize the use of control technology and minimize installation and operating costs.  Consult directly with equipment vendors on problems for resolution as necessary.
  • Updates P&IDs and control loop drawings
  • Installs, troubleshoots and maintains end devices, alarms, shutdown systems, process controls, air/fuel controllers, panel boards, etc.
  • Performs preventive and general maintenance on electronic and pneumatic equipment and parts associated with this equipment (which includes working near energized circuits over 440 volts)
  • Responsible for anything to do with AC voltage (120) single phase plus 24 VDC
  • Work will be located out of Carlsbad, NM

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • New Mexico and Texas electrical journeyman license
  • Five (5) years process instrumentation/electrical maintenance experience in industry OR two (2) years maintenance experience in industry and Associates Degree in Instrumentation or Electrical Technology.  Automation experience preferred as well.
  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and handle call-outs.
  • Able to examine/analyze equipment for defects
  • Knowledge of oil gathering and sales, electrical layout, safety systems and area classifications
  • Able to understand equipment repair manuals; federal, state and local codes and regulations; schematics, wiring diagrams and layouts
  • Able to read P & IDs, control loop diagrams, and electrical diagrams
